Surfing in the open sea is heavily dependant on the size of waves, periods and direction of the wind which changes daily, down to each hour even.
Korea’s Summer season has small waves often (less than 0.3m), we call this ‘Jangpan’ (장판) meaning flat blanket. Then there’s this cool place to ride waves instead – Wavepark in Siheung. Koreans refer to the place as 웨팍, short form of 웨이브파크.
Price: high, it comes down to whether you go for free rides or a lesson with an instructor, but in general, be prepared to sepdn about 100,000KRW per visit
Location: 1~ 1.5hour drive from Seoul. Public transportation system is poor, do bring your own car. There is a Naver online Cafe and Kakao group chat where you could get a car pool as well. (Message me if you want those links!) The address is given at the end of the post.
Carpark: Yes they have but it is always full. They will guide you to another parking spots as necessary but quite distanced from the reception and it could be the pain in the neck having to carry your heavy board all the way😭… One too is to say that you will just drop the board at the entrance then they will let you into the main carpark. Do that and while you are in the carpark, circle around if there is a spot. 80% you will have to come out after dropping the board and go to another parking area but still bet for that 20% luck ! 😁😁
Discounts: search tickets through Interpark Ticket, Gmarket, Time Ticket, Coocha… rather than using the official website to purchase tickets as there are often discounted tickets available. You could use them on the same day entry as well.
Programs:
Bay – knee height, white foam rides, you could stand next to the board
Reef – green waves, need to catch waves on the surf board as the depth is more than your height. Reef offers four programms from M1 to T2.
Actually paddling into the reef zone is physically challenging… I wondered how others are managing this as I strugged to get to the reef point (where the waves start) every time.

Having to carry your surfboard out to the carpark after an hour or two’s ride is hard.

They do not run the pool in winter time, usually closing from November – March.
